CUHK Medical Clinic launches the ‘Bone Health Assessment Programme’ which is designed to help you and your family identify bone health issues early through bone density screening, and enable timely and appropriate therapeutic interventions.

Osteoporosis is a prevalent chronic skeletal disorder. In the general population, bone loss typically becomes more pronounced after middle age, particularly in postmenopausal women, who experience a decline in estrogen levels that further accelerates bone loss. When bone mass and density decrease, leading to weakened and brittle bones, the risk of fractures significantly increases.

According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation, osteoporosis affects one in three women and one in five men over the age of 50 worldwide^. As bones become thinner, the risk of fractures will increase. Fractures commonly occur in the hip, spine, and wrist. Early-stage osteoporosis often presents without noticeable symptoms, causing many individuals to only realise the problem when fracture occurs.
