FibroScan® and Fatty Liver (MASLD) Screening Programme

Early assessment of liver health enables better and more confident health management

Liver diseases (e.g. fatty liver) often present no obvious symptoms in their early stages. Many patients are only diagnosed when the condition has already progressed to liver fibrosis or cirrhosis. To help individuals gain early insight into their liver health, CUHK Medical Clinic launches the “FibroScan® and Fatty Liver (MASLD) Screening Programme” (Programme) that offers a liver elastography (FibroScan®) and Fatty Liver Assessment. These non-invasive assessments analyse liver stiffness and fat accumulation, support early identification of common liver conditions, and monitor progression of diseases that affect the liver.

What is Metabolic Dysfunction–Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD)?

Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (or MASLD)1 is one of the most common chronic liver diseases, with an estimated global prevalence of up to 38% 2

In Hong Kong, approximately one in four adults is affected by fatty liver 3.

  • If left unmanaged, excessive accumulation of fat in the liver may progress to steatohepatitis, and may further develop into liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer.
  • It is important to note that MASLD is not limited to individuals with obesity. It can also be found in individuals who are not overweight or obese.
